The Big Deal with Decision Making

THE BIG QUESTION:

“If I don’t get it right, will I have to settle for second best?”

OR

“What if I misunderstand God and make a decision he doesn’t want me to do?”

BEEN THERE, ASKED THAT

There are decisions I’ve made that I’m pretty sure made God frown. As a result, I’ve often thought I’m living a second-rate life. I screwed up and everything could have been so much better. Somewhere over there in the distance is the life I could have had — the best life. Do you ever think like that?

Stop. This kind of thinking is not right or healthy.

GO ON

We worry about missed opportunities. We rap our knuckles for not being better. We get despondent because we see consequences of bad decisions as being stuck on a sub-standard track. Or we see her over there living her best life. And we’re paralyzed in fear of getting it wrong again.

If we think we’ve missed the best, then we live each day with regret. Regret can mess us up. Have you been there? Are you there?

Get rid of the myth.

SO WHAT’S THE TRUTH?

There is no second best with God.

Sure, we can miss out, but not on the best way, only on the right way.

Yet, if we make our decisions with God then we are doing it the right way.

And doing it with God comes with a total care package. He never says,“Oops, you were meant to go left, not right. Now you’re on your own.”

God promises to take care of you all the time, in every situation, and every step of the way.

GETTING THE TRUTH INSIDE US

Keep the words, below, in a handy place. Read and reread them until they are seared in your mind. Say them out loud — even if you’re on the street. Hey, plenty of people talk to themselves in NYC, so no one will notice you.

God says,I will not leave you or abandon you.”

Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.

Wherever I go, your hand will guide me; your strength will empower me.

THE RADIANT WOMAN: Never fears second-best.
