HE WILL PROVIDE

The end of 2019 leading into the beginning of 2020 contained a lot of difficult and painful change. I faced my first real heartbreak and job loss as the entertainment industry came to a screeching halt during the beginning of the pandemic.

And yet, I stand here today in 2021 looking back at 2020 as one of the most beautiful chapters in my life. God provided in ways I never imagined possible — allowing room and energy for unique work opportunities, providing ways for me to serve various communities, and bringing a significant other in my life who deeply values exactly who God has made me to be.

It feels as though God’s provision in 2020 was a refreshing rainstorm after years of drought. And I often think of my favorite Bible verse in seasons like the one I find myself in.

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”

Even in the pain and uncertainty, God will create a way where there is no way. He cares deeply about even the smallest details of our lives. God loves you. You are a child of God.

HIS LOVE DOESN’T RUN OUT

I had a terrible day at work. My boss called me about a couple errors. I was going to fix them tomorrow. I only made those mistakes because of being up late the night before helping my roommate sort through drama with her BF, which led to only five hours of sleep. Now, I’m sitting alone in a bar trying to take the edge off and calm down, but I’m beating myself up for making those stupid mistakes.

His love doesn’t run out, his mercies are new every morning.

With God we get to press the reset button. You don’t have take that “I’m a tired failure” feeling into tomorrow. You have not depleted God’s love with your mistakes. He will empower you for each and every day, if you ask him.

HE’LL CARRY YOUR LOAD

Bad day! In the wise words of the guy who works with my husband: “People suck!” You know what I mean? People can be a pain. And at the end of the day and in the middle of the night, as I tossed and turned in the darkness over a relationship going south, I wanted relief. I needed to sleep!

My thoughts turned to words spoken by God — ones that I want to put into practice: “Throw your worries,” he says, onto me. In other words, don’t hang on to the stress.

Pile your troubles on God’s shoulders— he’ll carry your load, he’ll help you out.

As light began to creep under the blinds and into the room, I directed every troublesome thought upwards. I threw all the crap onto God. I can’t believe he wants to take it, but I’m desperate to let go. Sometimes it takes a while but I always nod off. You can leave your worries with God because he cares about you.

HE WILL REFRESH YOU

A melancholy malaise settled in my heart and had no plans of leaving. I was determined to know the source of my unexplained sadness.

With wide eyes and a helpless look on my face, I considered: Was it hormones? They were always a likely candidate. Was I suppressing an emotion, or denying a fear? That was possible. Was there something I was afraid to acknowledge and feel? Maybe.

That’s when God spoke. This invisible “he” that has been a part of my life for quite some time.

“Come to me. I will refresh you, for I am your oasis.”

I don’t know where I’d be without God. I’m surprised I don’t turn to him faster. So I sat down and verbally shared with him what I didn’t understand. I can’t explain it — but peace came. Spending time with him is my oasis. If you’re looking for comfort and relief, give it try. God’s available to you!
